18 Monthd Old!!!

Joe is 18 months old now. He is really smart, if I do say so myself...
His vocabulary seems to be growing and growing as time goes on. Because I've decided to dedicate this blog to the boys and their significant milestones, I figured I better write up a post about Joe's recent activity before I forget!!
He's been saying the basics like Mama, Papa, cat, and Batman (ha) for a few months now. But recently, we get words like tractor, fishie, shoes, juice, dump truck, baby, Chrissy, and about 10-15 more that he says on a pretty regular basis.
He is a VERY picky eater, he doesn't even like milk. Not even chocolate milk! Trying to find things to pack in his lunch that I know he'll eat is so hard. The basics usually include a Yo-Baby yogurt, some pasta, applesauce, a kashi bar, and maybe some ham, or other leftover meat from dinner. He's not too crazy about PB&J. Will not even touch fruit or veggies!!! Apples, bananas, oranges, I've tried over and over again. The closest this guy will get to fruit is applesauce.
He studies everything, and really seems to try to understand how things work. Loves to stack things over and over again. Loves to work the remote control that comes with the geo-trax racetrack, and knows the difference between backward and forward, and can control the cars in that manner!!
Best of all, he enjoys keeping up with his older brother Chris. He likes to do whatever Chris is doing. Monkey see, monkey do. The two of them can get into pretty good trouble, too. They are loud, and love to make each other laugh.
This was a really fun Christmas, and next year proves to be even more fun as Joe will be that much more aware of all that is going on!

Chillin out on a rainy day

There's something kind of nice about the days following Christmas. Especially this year, where Christmas fell on a Friday, we all automatically have the weekend to just hang around and do whatever you feel like.
The boys are having a great time playing with all the loot they scored yesterday. Joey LOVES his vacuum cleaner. When I say he loves it, I mean really....he takes it into the kitchen and pushes the chairs aside and pretends to vacuum the area rug under the table. It's pretty funny! Greg hit the nail on the head. Knew Joe would just love it, and he does. Chrissy is having a great time with all of his newly acquired Batman action figures and other Batman gear. Santa also brought the requisite nerf basketball hoop, which all little boys must have.
Today is a rainy, grey, yucky sort of day. Perfect for hanging out and doing whatever you want.
Went to wegs this afternoon and got all the makings for homemade Chicken soup, which sounds perfect for a day like today. It's also much lighter than all of the heavy stuff we've been eating over the last few days!

Here's a cute shot of Joe vacuuming the rug in the play room.

Merry Christmas! Santa was here!!!

This is our second year in a row now that we have spent Christmas here in our own home as opposed to travelling to see family.
I like the idea of spending Christmas here, but I also miss those big family gatherings on Christmas Eve and Christmas day.
In any event, we had a wonderful time here in our own home. The kids, especially Christopher, were keyed up for Santa Claus this year. He was so excited to see that Santa brought him all kinds of Batman toys, Transformers, Geo-trax sets, and a whole host of other exciting toys. Joey seemed to be a bit overwhelmed by the sight of all the toys under the tree. Christopher was quick to show him the ropes when it came to opening up the presents.
We made a point to have delicious meals to eat with special treats on Christmas eve.
All in all, we had a great Christmas!!

Decorating the Tree

Every year we go to Williams Tree Farm in Mendon to try and find the perfect Christmas tree. This year Joe wasn't feeling so well, so Christopher and Greg went out on their own. Joe and I stayed back and baked a delicious batch of Toll House cookies for the guys to have when they returned.
Chris had a blast helping his Papa find just the right tree, and cut it down. He was especially happy that Tiger, the resident horse on William's farm, kissed him!
They came home with a beautiful Frasier fir. It smells awesome! We strung the lights up after dinner, and then put the ornaments on. The boys got a bit excited over this ordeal and of course a couple of ornaments broke. But that's par for the course. What are you gonna do. It happens!
We made sure to find a few of those non-breakable ornaments so that the little guys could help out too.
The tree looks beautiful. Finally, I feel like it's Christmas! Now, on to the shopping...ugh!

Thanksgiving 2009

Had a great trip to Michigan this year! The kids did really well in the car. It does seem like it's getting easier to travel with these two little guys. They watch DVD's and eat snacks the whole way. Helps to keep them occupied.
This year we left on our journey after work on wednesday and stopped in Port Huron for the night. Mike, Andrea, and the girls also stopped there on their way to NY. Was awesome to see them and spend some time catching up!
The next day we got to Oma's house where Stefan was already there! He enjoyed using my Zi8 video camera and showing us his new laptop. Mike, Jeanette, Sam and Seth arrived a few hours later. Once dinner was over, Jeanette and I got cracking on the pies for Thanksgiving dinner. 2 pumpkin, 2 apple, 1 pumpkin pecan, and 1 blueberry. I really enjoyed helping with those. I love to bake and it was a great way to unwind after all of that driving! They turned out great!
Dinner was fabulous too. Erika did a lot of cooking, and everything was delicious.
I really enjoyed myself this year. Told myself before we left on Wednesday that I was not going to get stressed out over the kids being out of their routines. And I didn't. So glad I just let all of that go!! You are only there for a short period of time and before you know it you are back to the grind.
Enjoying family and having fun is really what it's all about!!

Trick or Treat!!!

Holidays are always more fun when the kids really understand what's happening. Well, this year's Halloween was an absolute blast!! Christopher was sooooooooo excited to be The Dark Knight! We bought his costume about 4 weeks ago, and he has worn it every single day leading up to Halloween, and continues to wear it daily (best $19.99 we've ever spent!).

As far as little Joe goes, let's just say he was not so much into the whole idea of wearing a costume. We found this little pirate outfit and it was perfect because it was more like wearing a shirt with pants as opposed to a bulky costume.

They both looked so adorable. They both had a blast running from house to house to ring the doorbell and should "trick or treat!!!". Christopher also liked to mix it up a bit, so instead of always saying the predicted line of trick or treat, he would throw in a "I'M BATMAN" hear and there.

The kids also had a fun Halloween party at their school on Friday before the big day, and they got to make their own personalized candy bags! It was great, and here is a pic of little Joe from the school event.

This one goes out to the one I love...........

If you are not into overt public displays of affection, then I suggest you promptly close your browser!
This blog post is dedicated to my very best friend, and husband, Greg Marek.

We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary on October 23rd. We declared our love for each other on that day over Twitter, the way modern couples do. It got me thinking about how very lucky I am to have landed such a great guy. I remember the day I met him as if it were yesterday. We were at Marta's christening. Greg and the rest of the Marek family travelled out here from Michigan to celebrate the occasion. I was included in this because of my connection with Andrea, Greg's sister and my very dear friend.

I wasn't really "looking" for Greg or anyone else for that matter when I met him. But when I laid eyes on him, I said "yep, that's the guy I'm going to marry"... and he will tell you with the same degree of certainty that he felt the same way about me. Love at first sight is one of those things that you know can happen, but rarely believe it will. Well, it did for us.

After that evening, I remember several calls from Greg. And then of course lots of visits from Greg! He would drive all the way out here from Michigan every weekend. Every weekend driving hundreds of miles thru Canada waiting at that crummy border for who knows how long just to spend some time with me. We knew this wouldn't work for long. So take a wild guess who decided they would completely uproot their life and move to Rochester? Greg.

He found a job, found a place to live, and moved here to give our relationship a real chance. A year later we were engaged, and then a year after that we got married. And the rest, as they say, is history. This is just one of the many, many sacrifices and selfless acts that Greg has demonstrated over the years I've been with him.

  • The kids and I are always at the top of his list, he puts himself and his needs last. He's a family guy without question.
  • He's my single, absolute best friend. There's not another person on Earth I would rather spend my time with.
  • In all the years I've known Greg, he's not once called me a bad name. Not once, not even in the throws of a heated argument.
  • Lucky for us, those heated arguments are very few and far between and are usually over something completely stupid that ends up with us laughing.
  • Greg came home every single day for lunch during each of my maternity leaves with Christopher and Joseph to spend time with us and give me a break.
  • Once, I forgot my winter boots at home and it started snowing at work. Greg drove all the way home, got my boots, and brought them to Kodak Office for me.
  • Before we had the kids, I travelled a ton for business, with a bunch of guys from the office. Portfolio meetings in Japan, business research all over the world, regional meetings, tradeshows, you name it. Greg never made me feel bad or guilty. It was my job, came with the territory, and he accepted it -no problem. The only thing he ever said was "have a great trip and you come back safe and sound".
  • Never judges. never assumes. accepts you for who you are.
Greg, you are a good-natured, honest person who makes me very, very happy. Why you put up with me, I'll never really understand. I know what trouble I am! You are the greatest! Thanks so much for ten of the best years of my life, and the two most beautiful children I could ever ask for.
I love you more than words can say! XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXo

10 Years! Time Flies When You Are Having Fun!

Yup, that's right, I said 10 years. Yesterday Greg and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary! Boy did it go by fast. I remember writing a post last year about our anniversary and how we really didn't get to do anything special. Well, this year we made it a point to do something special. A great dinner out, no kids! Went to Black and Blue, and of course ate too much. We were lucky that Joe's teacher, Miss Jen, was available to sit for the boys. They loved having her come to the house, which made it easy to leave them for a few hours.
Well, here's to 10 great years and many, many more!!

Visit with Grammy, Aunt Sue and Uncle Bob!

A couple of weeks back, we had a really fun visit with Mom, Sue and Bob. It was a short visit, but that's ok. I'll take it. Always looking for ways and reasons to reconnect with family. I miss them all so much, and wish we lived closer. Mom stayed with us for a couple of days, and it didn't take long to get her fully integrated in with Batman, games, and lots of junk food.

It's that time of year again! Can't say I was really looking forward to fall this year. Normally, I do. I LOVE fall. Being from New England, you can't not love fall. The leaves are amazing where I grew up. The shades of red are unrivaled by any place else in the world as far as I'm concerned. But, for some reason, I have not really been in that fall frame of mind this year. Could be because we really had no summer. Pumpkins? Sure. Halloween costumes for the boys? OK, lets do that. Halloween decorations in the house? Yep. Still, not in that festive mood for fall.
Bummed out that it gets dark so soon, and that it turned so cold so fast. Geez louise!
Nonetheless, here's a few good ones of the boys. Halloween shirts!

An official Pre-schooler

Christopher started preschool this month! It's not really that big of a deal for him, but it is for me. Chris is going to the same place he's been going for a couple of years, and he's moved up to the room next door and is now considered an official pre-schooler. I love his teachers. They are awesome. He is making some new friends too. That makes me very happy and very proud!
This picture has nothing at all to do with school. But it is a funny one! You cant even see baby Joe in the middle of the pile of toys they brought into the kitchen in this pic!!
It's just so cute how they love getting into trouble together.....this is only going to get worse!!!
I'm enjoying the cute-ness for now!

15 Months and going strong

Update! It's been awhile since my last post! I feel so bad about it! I had hoped to do at least a post a week about the kids, and then I get so busy with other things I forget to come here and write.

Well, Joe turned 15 months old on September 7th. He's doing great!! He learns a new word (although unintelligible except by Greg and I) just about every day. His latest vocabulary mastery includes "fishie", "caahhh" (he's picked up my Boston accent), "juice", and even "batman" (just says battt). He can do some sign language as well. "More please" is a good one!

He's also decided that he wants to aspire to be a terrible two. Tantrums happen on just about a daily basis. He's still adorable, though!!!

Joe, 14 months old

When Joe turned one, I was sort of sad to say goodbye to the baby-hood months and milestones because they are just so precious. But, I have to say, I am really enjoying the toddler months quite a bit! Joe's little personality is emerging with every little word he tries to say, or thing he tries to do.
He is such a sweet little boy. He blows kisses hello and goodbye, and loves to give full-mouth kisses to anyone at eye level.
He's a bit of a picky eater. He's not readily into fruit or veggies. I have to hide them in things. He loves pasta, though! Not much of a milk drinker, either. I need to figure out a way to trick him into drinking some milk! Need those vitamins!!!
As far as words go, he's really come a long way! I can remember being so worried when he turned one because he didn't babble all that much. He certainly has made up for lost time! Lots of words like "car", "mama", "papa", "ball", "cat", "hi", bye". He's imitating all of us like crazy, too! So funny to see him holding the phone to his ear and saying "hiiii"!!!

Chris and Lisa's 25th Anniversary party!

We'll never know for sure if it was a surprise or not. But one thing's for certain, it was a BLAST!!!
We made the trek back to New England to celebrate big brother Chris and Lisa's 25th wedding anniversary. We were SO glad we were able to take part in the festivities!!! The weather held up quite well, and everyone was in great spirits. Their three kids Courtney, Ally, and Anthony hosted the big bash and did such a great job. I'm thinking about hiring them the next time I need to throw a big party!
With most of the family living away from our home town, it's very rare that we all get together like this. Looking forward to the big bash for their 50th!
Happy anniversary Chris and Lisa, we love you very much!!!

Day at the Beach

When the weather is as lousy as it's been, you really have to take advantage of the good days if and when you get 'em.
We had a really nice weeend a few weeks ago, and decided to hit Durand Beach up at Lake Ontario. The kids really enjoyed themselves. Poor Christopher was bummed out because he couldn't go for a swim, as the water was closed to swimmers.
But, we had a fun time anyway!

Heeellloooo, summer, where are you??

What a bummer this summer has been. No really hot days to speak of at all. It's like we get one day in the 80's here and there, but the 70's always seem to come back. I hate that!!

The kids have been having all kinds of fun outdoors, though. They are not bothered at all by the fact that this summer stinks.

I decided to take the week off to have some fun with the boys. I figured that just giving them a break from the daily routine of having to get up, get dressed, eat, and go to school would be nice for them. I was right! We all had a great time together, in spite of the unexpected breakdown of three major appliances in our house, and thus having to shop for new ones. Being home this week made it convenient for the deliveries. Boys loved the big trucks that came to our house to drop off the new washer, dryer, and fridge!

The other excitement was the prep for the garage sale. We got all our baby stuff out of the basement, and put it up for sale. We didn't do too bad! I was surprised that the clothing didn't sell that well. Seemed like everyone who stopped by were either looking for little girl's clothes (sorry, just boys here!) or clothes for toddlers. Oh well!!

Even though this summer hasn't been so great weather-wise yet, we've still been very busy! The kids have really been enjoying running through the sprinkler from Grammy and playing outdoors every day. Joey seems to be inclined toward soccer balls and other sporty type stuff. We've also been enjoying going for a long walk together every evening. Greg pushes Christopher on his tricycle, and I push Joe in the stroller. We go about 2 miles. Not bad!
Also, Joey is really trying to talk up a storm!!! Lots of words are being formed, like "ba" for ball, mama and papa, and says cracker, hi, and I swear I heard an "oh wow" the other day after I said it to him!

Cute Pics on a Rainy Day

Saturday was a complete wash-out here. We had a full day's worth of continuous downpours, leaving us with not much to do except play in the house! Here are some real cute ones of Christopher and Joe playing in Joe's room! They are both getting so big!

Happy Birthday Joe!!

Well, today is your BIG day !! One year old! I know I keep saying this but it's so hard to believe you are a year old!! You are the cutest and sweetest little thing. We are proud that you are taking your first steps already and tyring to walk everywhere. Words can't even begin to touch how much we all love you!

Happy First birthday, Sweetie!!! XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Big Joe is Walking!

AND, it happened BEFORE his first birthday, just like his brother Chris! I probably should have written this post a week and a half ago to be accurate because that's when he took his first steps.

Now we have two walkers in the house! But, Joe still has a ways to go yet before he is truly proficient in his walking. He is in the "takes 4 steps, tries to run, falls down" phase of walking right now. Won't be long before he's really getting around.
PS, Happy Birthday Andrea!

Big Moves at the Playground!

Took the boys to the playground last weekend. The weather was perfect, so we packed a picnic lunch and headed over to Powder Mills Park to eat and enjoy the slides and swings.
Joe is so mobile now! He is climbing all over the place. And Christopher, what can I say!! We have tons of pics of him at the playground from last year, and you can see how much he's grown in just this past year. Unbelievable!!!

Great times over Memorial Day

Wow! Talk about a picture-perfect weekend! The sun was shining every single day and the temps were just right (well, maybe could have been about 5-10 deg. warmer- but still).
We had an awesome family weekend together. The boys and I had Friday off as well, which made for a REALLY long and relaxing holiday weekend!
Here are some great pictures from the parade on Monday. The kids enjoyed seeing all the trucks and police cars go buy. Christopher said his favorite part of the parade was "all of those guys who throw candy at you!!"

11 Months old!!!!!!!!

OK, I am officially freaking out. In less than one month, Joe will be a year old!!! How is this possible?!?!?!? It seems like just yesterday he was a little infant lying in my arms. Now, he is standing and cruising the furniture, gearing up for his first steps with no support. I've even seen him standing with support, and then he lets go and can stand up all by himself for a few seconds! He can say mama, but I dont think he really know's he's saying Mama. That's OK with me, because no matter what, "mama" will go down as his very first word ;))

Happy Easter!!!!!!!!!!

The Easter Bunny came! He brought batman stuff!! Oh, how fun today has been! Christopher and Joey were thrilled to see that the Easter Bunny did indeed stop by the house and left all kinds of goodies!!! Eggs were hidden, baskets were full of stuff.
All kinds of Batman ware inlcuding a pillow, trash can, frisbee, water bottles, ball, and an action figure of the Joker "here's my card"!

Joey had a ball finding all of the hidden eggs. He loved shaking them until they "cracked" open and all the candy dropped out!
